Introduction, classification and sources of impurities
Sources of impurity
http://www.pills-project.eu Responding to growing concern about pharmaceutical residues in surface and drinking water, due to emissions from urban water cycle and poor degradation in conventional wastewater treatment, the INTERREG IVB-funded project PILLS investigated the feasibility, efficiency and sustainability of advanced decentralised treatment at hospitals. Treatment facilities were installed in Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg (CHEM - Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch) and a multi-criteria assessment of various technologies (environmental impacts, costs) was performed.
Some of humanity’s favorite antibiotics are starting to lose their mojo, in the face of smart, sneaky, and rapidly-evolving bacteria. To find new drugs to combat these superbugs, scientists are looking in some weird new places, like cockroaches’ brains, the blood of alligators, and more. ---------- Like SciShow? Even modern wastewater treatment plants in line with the current state of technology are unable to eliminate all substances from the water. This applies amongst others to drug residues. The PILLS project examines which wastewater treatment methods are best suited to eliminate pharmaceutical micropollutants and therefore amongst other things to counteract a further higher resistance to antibiotics.

Let me confirm something you already know on a gut level; the supplement industry is a capitalist's wild wild west, a profiteers paradise, an unregulated free market, and consumers should beware. I've been a pretty hard core consumer of Nootropics for going on 4 years now and I'm increasingly becoming less and less of a believer in the majority of Stacks. Pharmaceutical drugs are being prescribed more than ever to both humans and animals. In the United States, over 70 percent of adults use some form of prescription drug. It was only in the late ’90s that researchers realized these drugs could have a profound impact on the environment thanks to improper disposal or chemicals entering the water through our bodily waste. These drugs are incredibly helpful to humans, but they can have a devastating effect on the world’s ecosystem. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net ...

You may have read in the press about medicines, like antibiotics and the pill, being found in rivers and lakes, and even in drinking water. Is this true? How do drugs get there, and do they have effects? Is there anything being done to address this? Can I do anything to help? The animation gives answers to these questions and explains the processes involved. It was conceived for a general educated public with no prior knowledge of the issue, and was funded by the EU within the research project PHARMAS (http://www.ecologic.eu/4276).
